Kids having fun

Posted in Uncategorized on July 2, 2009 by Bill & Dorothy

The team from Victorious Life Church in Tampa provided a story and lots of fun for the children at each of the locations where they ministered.  Below are a couple of photos from the Terre Noire area.  The craft time was a big hit as the children seldom have the opportunity to do a ‘hands on’ activity.  The face painting was another fun feature.

Here are a couple of photos taken last week at Ft. Jacques.  It had been quite a while since I had been there and, unfortunately, it was showing some neglect.

Graduation

Posted in Uncategorized on June 30, 2009 by Bill & Dorothy

We attended a wonderful Haitian secondary school graduation yesterday afternoon.  The invitation said 2:00, the program said 3:00, it actually started at 4:00.  Through it all, God was honored.  The class sang a couple of beautiful Gospel songs, a message was shared from the Word, each student was affirmed by their classmates, and there was laughter.

Fun Day

Posted in Uncategorized on June 23, 2009 by Bill & Dorothy

Ouch!  Sorry for the long delay.  We have been super busy with teams…and fatigue to maintain everything.  As a matter of fact, we have another great team in right now and two more scheduled in the next five weeks.  Below are a couple of photos from yesterday.  We spent a great day painting and then working with 28 wonderful kids at an orphanage.  They were displaced from all the flooding in Gonaives last September.

3 leg raceThis was the three-legged race which was a big hit.  Notice the adults got into the action.

sachet raceAfter the bigger kids did the sack race, this little guy found a plastic sack and tried it for himself.  Talk about cute!

Today it will be a quick visit to pick up some meds in Titanyen, then two more kids programs.  Since I’m not as young as I used to be, it’s good to have a young team to do all the activities.

A Different View

rearview-mirror-look1On a recent trip into the mountains, I snapped this photo in the side mirror of a young man with a heavy load, standing looking out over the valley…perhaps dreaming of an easier life…or just praying for rain for a good harvest.

‘Happy Meal’

happy-to-eatWhile working on replacing a couple of chalkboards at the LACC school in Cite Cadet today, the kids showed up with their plates of food.  Here is a photo of a young boy who is happy to have his daily meal at school…thanks to Convoy of Hope and the NutritionHope program.

beautiful-smileHere’s another one of those beautiful smiles.  This young boy was watching us work at the LACC school on Delmas 33 this afternoon.  Just another proof that the kids in Haiti are some of the most beautiful in the world.

garden1Following a purity seminar  at Pernier school yesterday morning, the COH team introduced ‘tire gardening’ to the 6th graders.  It was a well-received project that the students took seriously.  The photo above shows the onions and leeks in one of the tires.  Other plants were bell-pepper, chard and spinach…all thanks to Double Harvest!

working-on-benchesThe team puts the finishing touches on small benches that will be placed with matching tables for pre-schoolers.  The benches were finally taken inside after dark.  All-in-all, it was a long, full, fulfilling day.  Today….REST at the beach.

Seed Project

Posted in Uncategorized on March 13, 2009 by Bill & Dorothy

Today was the start of a new self-sustaining seed project with 50 students at the LACC school in Terre Froide.  Each of the selected students received 3 small marmites of black beans seeds.  They ‘sign’ for the seeds, then are responsible for planting the seeds in their garden, taking care of the garden, and harvesting their produce.  They are then required to return to the ‘project’ 3 small marmites of black beans seeds.  Thus, in a sense they are ‘borrowing’ the seeds to use for their garden.  signing-agreementIn the above photo, Pastor Fils Aime watches as a student signs for her seeds. Below is a photo of some of the students with their bags of seeds.

girls-sanding2This week the COH team is busy building new school benches.  These, along with new chalkboards and a storage cabinet, will be delivered next Saturday to some of the LACC schools.  In the photo above, the girls are sanding the finished product, while Jorel shows his skills in using a drill in the photo below.  These benches are very solid and should last through several school years.
