Getting Back on Track

Posted in Uncategorized on June 30, 2008 by Bill & Dorothy

Since our last post, we have spent a week in the States at a Bible school leaders’ summit, a weekend with our daughter and son-in-law in FL, and have co-hosted a team of 17 from New Jersey. Life is getting back on track of ‘normal,’ whatever that is. Now I need to get the photos going again.

Oh yea, and happy anniversary to us…36 years! We celebrated by purchasing a small freezer that was badly needed.

Kitchen facilities

Posted in Uncategorized on June 10, 2008 by Bill & Dorothy

This lady and 4 of her 8 children are standing in front of their kitchen. It doesn’t meet any kind of building standards by the North American thinking, but it is functional and meets their needs.

They were one of the recipients of a pig in our pig/goat project in the Fond Verettes area.

Haitian ‘Hardware Store’

A Home Depot it is not…yet it is amazing what you can find in the ‘street shops.’ Many have their ‘specialty’ that they sell. If thieves steal your electronic equipment, there is a market downtown where you can go and may be able to find your stolen equipment…and re-purchase it at a much better price than you first paid.

Heavenly Peace Lottery

Posted in Uncategorized on June 8, 2008 by Bill & Dorothy

The reality is that heavenly peace is not a chance…it doesn’t come from a drawing to see who will receive it.

Phil 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Eph. 2:14 “For he himself is our peace…

Electrical Problems?

Posted in Uncategorized on June 7, 2008 by Bill & Dorothy

Just looking at all the wires ‘attached’ to the pole outside our house, and realizing this is one of a gazillion (even in better condition than most) gives you an idea why there may possibly be electrical problems in Haiti.

I get a ‘charge’ out of looking at all the creative wiring techniques found in Haiti. The crazy thing is…it works…for the most part.  We actually had over 9 hours of city power last night…more than we’ve seen in quite a while.

LACC Schools Leadership

Posted in Uncategorized on June 6, 2008 by Bill & Dorothy

It never hurts to go over the mission and vision of an organization on a regular basis. That’s what we did this morning with the leadership of the LACC schools. In the photo below, they are going over a new administrators’ book of practical application for duties, forms, expectations, etc. It is published in Haiti with the Haitian school system in mind and is a document that has been needed for years!

Speed the light

Posted in Uncategorized on June 5, 2008 by Bill & Dorothy

I have always liked the photo below because it shows a comparison of the modes of transportation in Haiti. The vehicle in the background is a Speed-the-Light vehicle provided by the youth in the U.S. The lady is on a ‘speed-the-work vehicle’ which helps her finish the day with a bit more energy, rather than carrying everything on her head.

Weather/Demonstrations

Posted in Uncategorized on June 4, 2008 by Bill & Dorothy

Waking up this morning to more clouds and having a district pastors’ meeting today, I decided to check out what the internet says about our weather and the following map describes it rather clearly.  Haiti is under all the orange (heavy cloud/rain).

A ‘march/demonstration’ is planned for today.  People are tired of all the kidnappings and are having a demonstration as a means of drawing the government’s attention to that fact.  My meeting today is next door so it’s good not to have to be on the streets.

Book of Hope

Below is the photo of the Haiti Assembly of God Book of Hope team that met recently to finalize plans of training and the distribution of 80,000 copies of Book of Hope by the end of December 2008.

Tap-Tap

Room for one more

I’m not sure how many kids are on this tap-tap, but, as with all tap-taps, there is always room for one more.

These children are Latin America ChildCare students at one of the six schools we are helping on a regular basis.
